With kind support from Department of Meteorology & Hydrology, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Lao PDR, the Roving Seminar 2015 will be held at Vansana Riverside Hotel in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 4 – 6 November 2015.
The seminar aims to promote knowledge sharing and capacity-building activities among Typhoon Committee Members on aspects such as tropical cyclone analysis, forecast and warning as well as the impact of associated hazards on socio-economic development. The main theme of the Seminar in 2015 will focus on “Flash flood and landslides”, which will include the following three topics:
Topic A – Risk Reduction and Mitigation of Sediment-related Disaster
Topic B – Advances and Challenges of Flash Flood Modeling and Prediction
Topic C – River and Urban Flash Flood’s Forecasting and Mitigation

The ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee (TC) at its 46th Session decided to convene the 9th Integrated Workshop (9th IWS) in 2014. With the kind support of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the 9th IWS will be held in ESCAP – UN Conference Center, Bangkok, Thailand on 20 – 24 October 2014. Following the consultations with the Advisory Working Group (AWG) and the Members, it was decided to adopt “Synergized, Integrated, Collaborative Standard Operating Procedures Strategies to Improve Early Warning System for Coastal Multi-hazards” as the title of the 9th IWS.

The Third Joint Session of the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee (TC) and WMO/ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones (PTC) (corresponding to the 47th and the 42ndSessions of TC and PTC, respectively) to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 09 to 13 February 2015.The Session is being convened by the Typhoon Committee and the Panel on Tropical Cyclones under auspices of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), with the kind support of the ESCAP. The Session will be held in ESCAP – UN Conference Center, Bangkok, Thailand.

The ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee has already a long history of about forty years and has been an example followed by countries of other regions affected by tropical cyclones. It is an intergovernmental body established in 1968 under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East (UNECAFE) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in order to promote and coordinate the planning and implementation of measures required for minimizing the loss of life and material damage caused by typhoons in ECAFE region. Later, in 1974, this Commission was re-designated as ESCAP – Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
The Typhoon Committee is currently composed of 14 Members: Cambodia; China; Democratic People’s Republic of Korea; Hong Kong, China; Japan; Lao People’s Democratic Republic; Macao, China; Malaysia; the Philippines; Republic of Korea; Singapore; Thailand; Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the United States of America.
