The session offered an important opportunity to exchange insights on the World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) latest achievements and ongoing challenges in advancing global early warning systems. It also provided updates on WMO’s plans to implement the United Nations’ “Early Warnings for All” initiative, which will inform the development of the Typhoon Committee’s Strategic Plan 2027–2031.

While in Geneva, Dr. Duan met with Prof. Ko Barrett, WMO Deputy Secretary-General, who commended the Typhoon Committee’s achievements in disaster risk reduction across the Asia-Pacific region. She reaffirmed WMO’s commitment to further strengthening support for the Committee’s activities. The meeting was also joined by Mr. Cyrille Honoré, WMO Director for Services, and Mr. Ben Churchill, Director of the WMO Regional Office for Asia (RA II).

Dr. Duan also held productive discussions with Mr. Honoré and Ms. Anne-Claire, WMO Liaison Officer for the Typhoon Committee, on specific areas of collaboration, and met with Dr. Nathaniel T. Servando, Chair of the 57th Session of the Typhoon Committee and Director-General of PAGASA.
