Strengthening Collaboration in Typhoon Modelling: CEMC Experts Visit Typhoon Committee Secretariat
On May 15, 2025, Mr. Hongshan Li, Director General of the Center for Earth System Modeling and Prediction of the China Administration (CEMC), along with other experts from CEMC, visited Dr. Yihong Duan, TC Secretary of the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee (TC).
During the meeting, Dr. Duan provided an overview of the UNESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee's background and its role in typhoon-related disaster reduction, as well as a briefing on the Committee's Strategic Plan for 2022–2026.
Mr. Li discussed the establishment of CEMC and its development objectives in Earth system modeling and prediction. Additionally, Dr. Jian Sun, Director of the Model Technology Division, shared the latest advancements in the next generation of high-resolution typhoon modeling.
